Have fun.
Have the floor.
The clock has never stopped ticking.
And it won’t stop for you.
It won’t wait
for perfect circumstances.
It won’t pause
because you have a reason to cry.
It doesn’t care
that you’ve got a cough.
Or that your toe hurts.
Or that the tornado tore through your neighborhood.
Or that a global pandemic rearranged your whole world.
The clock keeps on
Tick.
Tock.
The mortgage is due.
The taxes are due.
Somebody has to change the air filter.
There are mouths to feed.
Bad cops to dodge.
Elections to survive.
Dreams that still insist on being dreamed.
Tick.
Tock.
It is a rhythm unmoved
by grief.
By excuses.
By history.
By hope.
It asks
the same question
From second to second, and the thousands of moments in between
And now?
So enjoy yourself.
It’s later than you think
Laugh with your scars.
Sing through your trauma triggers.
And Hold somebody close if you got somebody to hold close.
Let that old drum rumble for your kisses. Make them long and steady. And soft and sweet.
Eat the food.
Call the friends.
Rest sometimes but only to gather the strength to keep your triple step alive.
Butterfly with the heartache.
Shuffle with the struggle.
Dance
to the tick tock,
tick tock tick
tock,
until your feet can carry you no farther.
And when the music stops,
let it be said
that while the clock kept counting your days,
you were busy
Dancing.

I realize I hadn’t shared anything in a while so I wanted to share A work in progress from my studio. I’ve been working on a commission, which is not something I do often but when I do, I take it pretty seriously. That’s why I have to remind myself to have fun.
If you know someone looking for a commission, That’s the only way I feed my family.
